Chaplain's Message

My Hebrew Name

When a child is born, a girl is given a Hebrew name on the first day after the birth when the Torah is read. A boy is given a Hebrew name at his Bris (circumcision).

The Hebrew name is a person's reminder of his/her religious and historical roots. It preserves our spiritual existence. It is a link of continuity. When a child asks who is he/she named after, it opens up a golden opportunity to explore one's past, present, and future.

Since the miraculous rebirth of Israel in 1948, many Jews have resorted to being called by their Hebrew name.

Shalom (one of G-d's Hebrew names) be with you.
